Jump To Ferrous Prices

Welcome to August!

We hope that everyone on the East Coast that was affected by the strong storm that came through is staying safe and after staying safe starTing to look for some scrap.

After looking at the market over the last week it has been an up-and-down roller coaster but one that’s more meant for toddlers. We have seen the pricing on copper jump back-and-forth between one and three cents per pound. The good news is that it ended going into this report on a higher level overall.

Non-Ferrous Market News

Copper prices are staying stable over the last week and we are happy to see that taking shape. One of the problems that we are going to see moving forward regardless of any political implications or the election will be how copper is going to react as the dollar changes its value and the world currency changes its overall value because of the money that was printed and injected into the economy.

On top of that, you can talk about all of the other implications of aluminum tariffs and anything else. We have seen increases in the stainless steel market with the averages jumping $.03-$.04 per pound overall. With some increases coming that’s a great sign and hopefully will be able to see more and more businesses returning and manufacturing producing more materials in the United States looking forward to being able to help increase some of the metal prices.

Ferrous Market News

UP! We have seen the iron market increase in value month over month which was a role reversal from early reports of a decreased market. Overall we saw steel prices jump about $10 per ton from June through August with most of that increase coming over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully, we will be able to see this trend continuing to move forward and have more market increases as the year begins to become more and more normal.

With the gold market increasing to over $2000 per ounce. For the first time ever, we have already started to hear people talking about gold reaching $3000 per ounce. One of the major reasons that this could occur is because so many people are uncertain of where the dollar is in overall value, as well as the rest of the economic currency and the unrest that is out there right now. If you are working on electronic scrap this is a good sign for you, as you’ll be able to see some nice returns on your Gold bearing material.

Most of the time when you hear the phrase 2020,  you think about perfect vision or something going well and I think that the year 2020 will be one that everyone sits and reflects on what is and what was and more importantly what could be in all types of markets as we all continue to pull together.
