With April just a week away we are really looking forward to not only the warm weather….but more opportunities to be scrapping! In the last week we have had a GREAT turn of events in the non-ferrous world. Copper has gone up anywhere from $0.08 to $0.15 per lb. and you should see a nice jump in pricing at your local yards.
With the jump in copper pricing you will see that trickle down effect on other metals like Brass and insulated wire/cable as well. The larger increase in copper should raise the brass and wire prices about $0.03 per lb. and those prices should also rise immediately as well.
On the Stainless Steel side the market has softened over the last 3 months and there does not look to be any type of an increase coming soon. With Nickel prices really taking a hit in the last 6 months it will be very tough to see any real rebound coming soon for stainless steel other then a few pennies up or down.
Steel has not moved much in the last week with prices staying almost exactly where they were a week ago. The market seems to not want to be moving so far this year and all of the reports and industry professionals that we have spoken to have said much of the same. There seems to be a disconnect with the demand side of things having too much volume right now and that is partially part of the reason for the decrease.
Hope this info helps iScrappers, make sure to ask us any questions that you have about the market as well as about different metals.
