Metal Monday: Paper?

paper recyclingLet’s talk about paper…not paper like cash, but paper like newspaper and other types of tree based products like cardboard. Many people see if all of the time, wonder if it is worth something and how they can cash in with it. While cardboard, old newspapers, and even office paper is valuable it is very difficult to really cash in with.

Many towns have contracts with large fiber recyclers (paper is also know as a fiber in the scrap world) and just picking up your neighbors packaged paper products could actually be against the law (like it is in NYC). If you are able to cash paper in for…well, “paper,” how do you do it and where do you go?

Many recyclers will only take paper products because of the low recycling value that they hold. Paper products on average are only worth $0.03-$.10 per lb when you have thousands of different types that are out there it is tough to guess.

So, if you are looking for a new way to make a couple of bucks it will take some digging to find someone who will buy it, but once you do, you will be able to really make a great addition to your scrapping repertoire.

Scrap ya later!
