Many people see drill bits and think that they are carbide or tungsten drill bits…but how do you really know? On carbide drill bits (tungsten is what makes up the bit) they will often be marked CARBIDE. They have a much denser feel to them than normal steel drill bits do.
Where will you find them? Glad you asked! Many machine shops will use these drill bits and tips for cutting blades due to their ability to cut better and longer. The pricing on them can be anywhere from $5-11 per pound, all depending on which type you have, how much weight, and the consistency.
Often you will find Carbide tips on grinding tools that bore and break rocks out of the ground as well.
