Hold Both Copper & Brass, Sell Steel – 11/17/21

HOLD OR SELL NON-FERROUS
HOLD OR SELL FERROUS

With the markets getting ready for the holidays, we’ve seen pricing starting to show a slight weakness on the nonferrous side. While we have seen the Steele Markets have an incredible $40-$50 per ton increase over the last four weeks overall, the markets have been relatively across-the-board solid, including the catalytic converter side of things.

With December just around the corner, we have traditionally seen December as a positive but lightly traded month. That may mean that we see the markets shake their way out over the next 2 to 3 weeks going into December and have a better idea of what to expect for the rest of the year.

Non-Ferrous Prices & Market Status

  • Copper – HOLD

  • Aluminum – SELL

  • Brass – HOLD

  • Copper Wire – SELL

  • Stainless Steel – SELL

With copper prices struggling last week, we have seen markets decline by $.15-$.20 per pound. These markets have Seen weakness, and there should be with this coming from the insulated copper wire market. That’s why we got to get rid of it right away.

Non-Ferrous Price Chart of the Week

Ferrous Prices & Market Status

  • #1 Steel – SELL

  • Shreddable Steel – SELL

  • Light Iron – SELL

  • Cast Iron – SELL

  • Complete Car – SELL

With steel and iron prices increasing $50 per ton over the last 3 to 4 weeks, we encourage all material in your yards to get sold. These are some of the highest prices that we’ve seen all year, and they seem to be remaining strong with increased demand. Going into the holiday and the winter season, we could see a slowing of markets going into January, but the markets are robust now.

Other Metal Markets

Yes, there are specific grades of material like diecast and zinc. They have not been shown the amount of love that some of the other non-ferrous items have, but they are still vital when you put them into perspective. One of the only metals or categories that are not very strong is the battery department across all lead-acid battery recycling materials.

Catalytic Converter Prices & Market Status

  • Catalytic Converters – SELL

With all prices recovering over the last 2 to 3 weeks, we encourage you to look for your catalytic converter‘s new and updated price. All three base metals have been treated higher, which means you’ll get paid more money for your cats.

Thank You.

We want to wish you and your Scrap families a pleased Thanksgiving. We look forward to hearing about your stories and how you cook your turkeys!

– Tom
