Different Types of Stainless Steel Scrap

Finding stainless steel scrap in restaurant equipment

Stainless steel is great to sell….but it is very hard to identify the different grades of stainless. Stainless steel has many grades, but like all metals, some are worth more than others. It will be tough to tell but assume that most of the time, the stainless that you will have is either 300 or 304 stainless steel. This is the most common in items like:

  • Grills
  • Kitchen Appliances
  • Sinks
  • Other household items.

Sorting Stainless Steel Scrap

Stainless is VERY hard to cut and even harder to clean or take glue or paint off. We never recommend cleaning stainless unless you can unscrew items relatively easily. The easiest thing that we recommend cleaning is the stainless steel sinks. You can unscrew the brass from underneath and then have a 2-4 pound piece of brass to sell.
