SCRAP NEWS | Scrap Metal Prices
As we’ve watched the copper prices reacting in a positive way, we have a couple of things that we have been watching to see what type of domino effect is going to happen. With possible trade problems between the United States and the Chinese again over the origin of the COVID-19 spread, there’s talk of the Phase 1 Trade agreement being canceled or changed or delayed.
Aluminum prices have begun to slip down again with a weekly price report showing prices down another penny or two per pound. Aluminum has continued its struggle over the last two years starting with the tariff situation with the Chinese and now continuing with weaker demand due to the virus outbreak.
We have seen the copper prices not only stabilize over the last few days but also increasing as more people are going back to work and other scrap yards are beginning to re-open. Many people that live outside of the major areas in the United States are not seeing the devastation of sickness and death and do not have a firm grasp of what is going on.

Crazy times call for crazy amounts of hoarding sometimes. We’ve seen over the years when scrap prices dip down that many people hold onto their property and their brass and their other high valued items to be able to wait for higher valued times.
The good news is we look to be returning to normal quicker and quicker as the days go on and hopefully everyone’s health continues to be at the forefront of their minds and we push through this as quickly as we can. Some positive news that we have seen is the copper markets have continued to steady and we have started to see the iron market picking up as well.
We hope that everyone has been enjoying the nice increase in copper that we have seen in the last couple of days. After seeing an increase in the market, it gives us a little renewed sense of optimism that we will be able to continue this going forward.
