4/27/16 Scrap Price Update: Oil Rises, Steel Prices Jump, Copper Follows

In the last week we have seen a lot of people posting prices and those prices have been going UP! It looks like across the country that the prices have been rising and the overall attitude on the market has been positive.

Steel Prices Are Optimistic

In the last few days we have seen and heard a lot of great things going on about steel and iron scrap and that is a very optimistic thing to be happening. We have talked to a few industry experts and they have all said that with the low prices from 2015 that that has taken a toll on the quality of the steel in the market right now. Since the beginning of 2016 we have seen steel prices almost double and that is news that could not be more positive.

Recent Steel & Iron Scrap Prices:

  • Rochester, NY- Light Iron, $145 per ton (4/26/16)
  • Westport, MA– #1 HMS, $100 per ton (4/25/16)
  • Pueblo, AZ- Light Iron, $0.05 per pound (4/24/16)
  • Bemidji, MN- Scrap Iron, $75 per ton, (4/22/16)
  • Ponca City, OK- P & S Steel, $135 per ton (4/22/16)
  • Willow Grove, PA- Light Iron, $0.05 per lb. (4/21/16)

Oil Prices Go Up, So Does Copper

Some of the prices have really been so great to see popping up all over the place and really stabilizing over the last few weeks which we are really excited to see. We have seen the copper prices rise over the last few weeks as the oil prices have gone up, and generally as a rule of thumb that will happen.

  • Hollywood, FL- Ins. Copper Wire, $1.10 per lb (4/26/16)
  • Glen Falls, NY- Yellow Brass, $1.10 per lb (4/24/16)
  • Kerrville, TX- Bare Bright, $1.45 per lb (4/24/16)
  • Tacoma, WA- #2 Copper, $1.56 per lb. (4/23/16)
  • Ocala, FL- Bare Bright, $1.84 per lb. (4/22/16)
  • Waldorf, MDSteel BX, $0.13 per lb. (4/21/16)
