12/14/16 Scrap Price Update: Prices Remain High

Hey iScrappers!

With only 11 days until Christmas we hope that you have been able to enjoy these great copper prices and have seen your scrap yards increase all of their prices over the last few weeks. The prices remain high considering how low they have been this year in scrap, but we can only hope heading into the New Year. Even though we have seen some prices dip the last few days, overall we have seen a nice uptick for all of the materials….so let’s get right into it.

Non-Ferrous Price Update

With copper still sitting at almost two year highs it has been very nice to see and to feel in the wallet. We have seen some prices coming down, which is not too much of a surprise considering that the market will generally pull back towards the end of any year with the holidays and a lot of questions being asked. The amount of people reporting their scrap prices has been so great to see and we want to expand on some of the prices that have been reported.

Ferrous Update

With the steel prices finally starting to recover we have been able to see a lot of yards increasing over the last two weeks. A lot of people want the immediate reaction with higher prices, but one of the problems is that a lot of scrap yards have contracts that they look to fill and have to fill them before they are able to bump up their own prices for the public.

Reported Steel/Ferrous Prices

  • Rochester, NY: Light Iron, $169 per ton (12/14/16)
