Carbide scrap might not be something you find every day, but it’s one of the more valuable metals you can bring to a scrap yard. Whether you’ve got a pile of tool bits or access to industrial scrap, carbide can earn you serious cash. Use the iScrap App to:

  • Find the best carbide scrap prices near you
  • Locate local scrap yards that accept carbide
  • Request a pickup or drop-off container for large loads

If your local yard doesn’t buy carbide, no problem—RRCarbide, a partner of iScrap, buys carbide nationwide and makes the process easy with free shipping and fast payment.

What Is Carbide?

Carbide is a compound made of carbon and a metal element, most commonly tungsten. Tungsten carbide is extremely hard, heat-resistant, and chemically inert, making it ideal for cutting tools and machinery.

Where Is Carbide Found?

Carbide is mostly found in:

  • Machine Shops – Drill bits, cutting tools, and inserts
  • Industrial Equipment – Mining tools and aerospace parts
  • Tool Benches – Specialty bits or heavy-duty tools

Most household drill bits are not carbide—true tungsten carbide bits are dense, heavy, and typically gray with possible brazing. They’re usually purchased from industrial suppliers, not retail stores.

What Are the Scrap Prices for Carbide?

Carbide prices are high because of their tungsten content. Prices fluctuate with the global tungsten market, so it’s best to:

  • Use the iScrap App to check current local prices
  • Contact your yard directly for pricing updates
  • Use RRCarbide if your local yard doesn’t accept it

How to Recycle Carbide Scrap

  1. Sort & Clean: Remove attachments and separate from other metals
  2. Check Local Options: Use the iScrap App to find nearby yards
  3. Large Loads?: Request a container or schedule a pickup
  4. No Local Buyer?: Ship to RRCarbide and get paid fast

Are Drill Bits At My House Made From Carbide?

Everyone has a drill bit set at home, and many people assume (probably because carbide’s price is so high) that their bits are made from carbide…but most are not. Carbide is not commonly sold at stores like Home Depot or Lowes, they are normally ordered from specialty tooling shops. Almost all tungsten carbide will be very heavy and have a grayish color to it and some may have a brazing on top of it as well.
